Bosch dishwashers are among the most reliable on the market, but when an error code appears on the display, it can be confusing to know what to do next. At N Appliance Repair, we service Bosch dishwashers across Toronto every week. This guide covers every common Bosch dishwasher error code and what it means for your repair.
How to Read a Bosch Dishwasher Error Code
Bosch dishwashers display error codes as a combination of the letter E (or i in some models) followed by a number. On older Bosch models, the error may appear as a series of flashing lights rather than a digital display. To read flashing light codes, count the number of flashes in a sequence.
Quick reset: Press and hold the Start button for 3 seconds to cancel the current cycle. This clears most temporary error codes. If the error returns, a component has failed and needs repair.
Bosch Dishwasher Error Codes: Complete List
E09 — Heating Element Failure
The heating element is not reaching the target temperature. The dishwasher may run through cycles but dishes remain cold and wet at the end. The heating element may have burned out, or the temperature sensor (NTC) has failed and is sending incorrect readings to the control board. Repair cost in Toronto: $200–$320.
E15 — AquaStop Flood Protection Activated
Water has leaked into the base tray of the dishwasher and activated the anti-flood float switch. The dishwasher locks out all functions until the base is dried and the leak is fixed. To clear E15: pull the dishwasher out, tilt it forward 45 degrees to drain the base tray, then identify and fix the leak source (common: door gasket, pump housing, or hose connection). Repair cost in Toronto: $160–$300 depending on leak source.
Important: Do not simply reset E15 and continue using the dishwasher. The underlying leak will cause water damage to your kitchen floor or cabinetry.
E22 — Filter Blocked
The mesh filter in the base of the dishwasher is clogged with food debris. This is the one Bosch error code you can almost always fix yourself. Turn counterclockwise and remove the filter assembly, rinse under running water, scrub with a soft brush, and reinstall. Clean the filter every 2–4 weeks for best performance.
E24 — Drain Fault
The dishwasher is not draining water at the end of the cycle. Standing water will be visible in the bottom of the machine. Check:
- The pump filter (same as E22 cleaning process)
- The drain hose for kinks or blockages
- The air gap or garbage disposal connection if applicable
- The drain pump impeller for obstructions (may require service)
If the filter and hose are clear but the error persists, the drain pump motor has likely failed. Pump replacement costs $220–$300 in Toronto.
E25 — Drain Pump Blocked or Failed
Similar to E24 but more specific to the drain pump assembly. The pump impeller may be jammed by a foreign object (glass fragment, bone, pit) or the pump motor has burned out. Requires disassembly to inspect and clear or replace the pump.
E27 — Low Voltage / Power Supply Issue
The control board has detected a voltage drop. This can be caused by an overloaded circuit, a faulty power outlet, or a failing control board. Try plugging the dishwasher into a different outlet on a different circuit. If E27 persists, the control board or power module needs replacement.
Other Common Bosch Error Codes
- E01, E02, E03 — electronic control board faults. Usually requires control board replacement.
- E16, E17 — water intake issues. Check that the water supply valve under the sink is fully open and the inlet hose is not kinked.
- E18 — water pressure too low. Check home water pressure; Bosch dishwashers require minimum 0.6 bar inlet pressure.
- E20, E21 — circulation pump faults. The main wash pump has failed or is blocked. Requires professional repair.
Bosch Dishwasher Error Codes by Series
Bosch dishwashers sold in Canada fall into the 100, 300, 500, 800, and Benchmark series. The error code system is consistent across all series, but the display method varies. Series 100 and 300 use a 7-segment LED display. Series 500, 800, and Benchmark use a digital TFT display that shows the error code and a brief description.
