Oven Repair Cost in Toronto: Overview
Most residential oven repairs in Toronto cost between $150 and $400. The exact price depends on your oven type (gas vs. electric vs. induction), the brand, and the specific fault.
Gas oven igniter: $180–$260
The most common gas oven repair. A failing igniter causes the oven to not heat up or take a long time to reach temperature. Labour is typically 45–60 minutes.
Electric bake element: $150–$240
The lower heating element in an electric oven burns out over time. You may see a visible break or scorch mark, or the oven stops heating evenly.
Control board: $250–$420
Control board failures cause erratic temperature, unresponsive controls, or error codes on the display. Still cheaper than a new oven in most cases.
Temperature sensor: $130–$200
If your oven runs too hot or too cold, the temperature sensor is usually at fault. It connects to the back interior wall of the oven.
Door gasket: $80–$150
A damaged door seal causes heat to escape, leading to uneven cooking and longer preheat times.
Gas vs. Electric Oven Repair Costs
Gas ovens tend to have higher repair costs when the gas valve or igniter module needs replacement, but fewer electronic components fail. Electric ovens have simpler ignition but more complex heating element configurations. Induction and slide-in ranges can cost $300–$500+ to repair due to complex control boards. Brands like Bosch, Miele, and Wolf are at the higher end of the price range.
Money-saving tip: Ask your technician to diagnose all issues during the same visit. The service call fee is charged once regardless of how many problems are identified.
What Affects the Final Repair Cost?
- Brand — Samsung, LG, and GE parts are affordable. Bosch, Miele, and Wolf parts cost more.
- Oven age — parts for ovens over 12–15 years old may be discontinued.
- Labour time — most repairs take 1–2 hours at $85–$110 per hour in Toronto.
- Emergency service — same-day or after-hours typically adds $30–$50.
Repair vs. Replace: Should You Fix Your Oven?
Use the 50% rule: if the repair cost is less than 50% of a comparable new oven, repair is almost always the better financial choice. New freestanding gas ranges in Toronto start at $700–$900, so repairs under $350–$450 are typically worthwhile.
When to replace: If the oven is over 15 years old, requires multiple repairs at once, or the cost of parts exceeds 60% of replacement value, upgrading is the smarter investment.

(437) 524-1053 — Call NowWhat Happens During a Oven or Range Repair in Toronto
Range and oven repairs begin with a safety inspection — particularly important for gas models. We test for gas leaks at the supply line and burner valves, check igniter spark strength, and verify the oven igniter resistance (a failing oven igniter is the most common cause of "oven not heating" on gas ranges). For electric models, we test element continuity, bake and broil element resistance, and the electronic control board.
Surface burner problems (gas: no ignition, weak flame, continuous clicking; electric: element not glowing) are usually diagnosed and repaired in under an hour. Oven temperature calibration issues — where the oven runs hot or cold relative to its setting — are addressed by testing the temperature sensor and recalibrating the control board. Most common range repairs complete same-day with OEM parts from our van.
We serve Toronto Mon–Sat, 8 am–8 pm, with a 90-day warranty on all repairs.
Oven and Range Maintenance Tips From Our Technicians
Ranges are built to last, but neglected maintenance shortens their life and creates safety hazards. Here's what our technicians recommend after years of service calls in Toronto.
Clean the Burner Grates and Caps Regularly (Gas Ranges)
Food spills clog gas burner ports, causing uneven flames, weak heat output and constant re-ignition problems. Remove the burner caps and grates after each cooking session (once cooled) and wipe them down. Monthly, soak the caps in warm soapy water and use a toothpick to clear any clogged burner ports. Never put gas burner components in the dishwasher — the harsh detergent and high heat degrade the finish and can warp lighter components.
Use Self-Clean Carefully
Self-cleaning cycles run at 480°C–540°C, burning off food residue. This intense heat is hard on door gaskets, oven igniter contacts and control electronics. Use self-clean cycles no more than two or three times per year, and never immediately after heavy cooking when the oven is already hot. Remove oven racks before running self-clean — the extreme heat discolours and warps standard chrome racks. After the cycle, wipe out ash with a damp cloth once the oven cools completely.
Test the Oven Temperature Annually
Oven thermostats drift over time. Purchase an oven thermometer ($10–$15) and set it at 175°C — if the reading differs by more than 15°, the temperature sensor or control board calibration needs adjustment. Consistently miscalibrated temperatures ruin baked goods and can char food at higher settings. Our technicians can test and recalibrate oven temperature during any service call.
